Summary/Abstract: The 8th-9th double issue of Sarajevo Notebook magazine starts off with the standing section In the First Person, which presents the views of Aleksandar Hemon, acclaimed Bosnian writer currently living in America, concerning the issues of identity and affiliation with the national literary corpus in the Balkans. His life and literary experiences impel him to protest against the reductionism and exclusiveness of the concept of national culture, and to emphasise the essential value of the individual personalities of author and reader and their communication, which has the potential to transcend the claustrophobic architecture of national literary canons.
