Summary/Abstract: The attention paid to institutionalized social dialogue and its impact on the position of trade unions in the political system as well as towards social partners at national, branch and/or enterprise level has been insufficient and neglected in recent and contemporary scholarly debates. Even though we consider research in this field to be key to develop theories about trade unions transformation after 1989 in Central and Eastern Europe countries (CEEC) and to search for their position and operating in the political systems of given countries. The first part of the study points to the strength or weakness measuring tools of trade union movement in CEEC what constitutes theoretical introduction to the case study of Slovakia. Futher part focuses on social dialogue functioning analysis in Slovakia at tripartite level and impacts of political relations on social dialogue itself. The last part of the study concentrates on results of branch collective agreements content analysis in chosen industries whereby we aim at responding to question to what measure (and if any) social dialogue and its benefits influences the position of trade unions in society.
