Summary/Abstract: A comprehensive analysis of the cultural phenomena of media transition in Southeast Europe is still lacking; such efforts have remained sporadic thus far, and have usually not gone beyond the level of side comments. The chairman of the Media Culture department at the University of Vienna seeks to explore this issue in greater depth. His objective is to entrench discourse on media culture in the context of Southeast Europe in categories that are devoid of superficiality. His brief study serves the purpose of illuminating the difference between everyday plausibility and scientific plausibility. In the context of discourse on Southeast Europe, he finds it important – beyond any media science analysis – to classify the media-cultural phenomena which result from the social and socio-political transformation in Southeast Europe, also with respect to communications theory, in order to provide a theoretically legitimate framework for future analyses.
