Lexico-semantic groups of reindeer-naming words...

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with lexic_-semantic groups of names denoting the deer which are identified on the basis of logicalconceptual generality. Lexical facts of the Uralic languages are used to clarify the origin of the Khanty reindeer herding, which is important not only linguistically but also from cultural-historical point of view. The examined material is the stratum of the Khanty reindeer vocabulary, which is in general use. Each semantic group is characterized by specific signs and lexemes which apply to reindeer herding and which do not disappear and practically do not mix in use at the present time.
