Summary/Abstract: FREDERIC CHOPIN IN BORIS PASTERNAK’S WRITINGS Summary The author discusses Boris Pasternak’s fascination with the personality and work of Frederic Chopin. He presents the works in which Pasternak expressed his appreciation for the Polish composer’s oeuvre, interpreted his compositions and stressed their universal value. The author highlights that for Pasternak Chopin was a creator whose work was very realistic; an artistic illustration of the reality of his times. The fascination with Chopin’s work was the origin of Pasternak’s interpretation of realism as a whole. The author also stresses the fact that the Russian writer’s attitude towards the Polish composer was far beyond the standards of the day; in his praise of Chopin’s work Pasternak opposed the ideas voiced by authors such as Vladimir Mayakovsky or Ilya Erenburg.
