Summary/Abstract: Perfectionism as a personality trait is defined in the frame of unidimensional, bidimensional or multifaceted models. The dominating theoretical approaches not only concentrate on the dysfunctional, negative aspects of perfectionism related to the symptoms of psychopathoplolgy, but they also indicate the presence of a positive, adaptative dimansion of perfectionism. The aim of the article is to discuss and analyze theoretical concepts and the results of previous empirical research concerning both forms of perfectionism. Special attention was focused on the analysis of the factors modifying the relation between perfectionism and symptoms of psychopathology.
