Summary/Abstract: The author, expert on Russian literature, traces the presence of the medieval kenotic tradition in Dostoevsky’s great novels. The kenotic model available to Dostoevsky had acquired a number of reasonably well defined traits, some of which developed logically from the notion of self-humiliation. Many of them are exploited by Dostoevsky in his portraits of Tikhon and Zosima.
