Summary/Abstract: In no. 4 (1983) »The Bridge« started off with the. publishing of a lexicon of Croatian writers in which the authors wanted to introduce to foreign readers only the most significant names in contemporary Croatian literature. At the very beginning of working on this project the question of criteria on basis of determining which writers should be included in the lexicon arose. Namely, in turne.d out that this task is a very complex matter and that the first attempts at ranking offended many writers, some rightly so. Discussing these circumstances, the editorial staff has come to the conclusion that the number of writers to be presented be substantially increased so as to include all the. active living Croatian writers who in some way have an influence on the state and development Of contemporary Croatian literature. We rest assured that such a solution will best satisfy our readers as well, since it will Offer them a more complex and complete information on all those authors who make. up this live and active moment in contemporary Croatian literature.
