Summary/Abstract: This article is dealing with the manifestations of “age” in the life of the Bulgarians in the end of the 18th and the very beginning of the 19th century. “Age” is displayed as having different meanings in different parts of human‘s life, in different “ages”. On the other hand, “age” is represented as having different functions and structuring differently different ways of life. The last, but not least – “age” is used as a methodological frame of reference for analyzing the state of human society, overcoming the most commonly used for this purpose concepts of “modern” and “traditional”.
