THE PUBLIC DEBT SUSTAINABILITY IN TUNISIA: ANALYSIS IN TERMS OF THRESHOLD

Summary/Abstract: Following the debt crisis of the eighties, the emergence of the notion of sustainability is the center of debate for economists of fiscal policy conduct. A theoretical and empirical literature shows an abundant variety of methods for assessing fiscal sustainability and therefore the divergence of results. This paper provides a summary of the theoretical approaches for assessing fiscal sustainability. An application on the Tunisian economy focuses on a retrospective analysis, which is based on the calculation of the threshold sustainable budget deficit, in order to study the sustainability of public debt in Tunisia for the post-adjustment period .
