Summary/Abstract: The Crisis Of Modern Democracy In Theoretical Reflection. The author discusses the context and ways of theoretical reflection of the crisis of modern democracy in political science. In the introductory part she presents three possible factors of the crisis of modern democracy in this century. First, it was a collapse of the common basis of rules and conventions of modern democracy. The second factor was the world economic crisis in the thirties and following requirments of "social, industrial and economic democracy". The third factor that provoked a enormous increase of scepticism towards modern democracy, was the experience s of the Nazi fascism and the Soviet state communism. Then the author discusses Joseph Shumpeter's revision of the classic theory of democracy. She characterizes it as conservative-liberal one and protecting most of all privileges of traditional political élites. In the next part of the paper the author presents polyarchic model developed by Robert A. Dahl and the views of his critics represented by participationists and neocorporativists. Then she introduces models of election behaviour developed by Economic School of Public Choice as the third attempt at revision of classic democracy theory. Author finally resumes discussion about prospects of democratic rule, points at its complexity and vulnerability and suggests the need to indicate limits to development of democracy in order to avoid its self-destruction.
