Summary/Abstract: The European sovereign debt crisis is slowly turning into a euro crisis. Germany has a special responsibility for the resolution of this issue. As an exporting nation it is heavily dependent on stable economic conditions in Europe, and for this reason the long-term stabilization of the euro is in a very fundamental way in its interests, even if this means making transfer payments in order to prevent the disintegration of the eurozone.
