Russia/USSR and the global insurance market (18th-20th centuries)

Summary/Abstract: The article overviews the relations between the Russian insurance and the international system of insurance during the 18th-20th centuries. The paper studies the formation of the Russian insurance in the 18th-20th centuries, its ties with foreign reinsurance companies, the activity of Russian insurance companies abroad. The author analyzes the changes in insurance in the Soviet period, including the introduction of state monopoly of insurance, expansion of external economic ties of the USSR after the Second World War, operations of the state insurance companies in the global market (Ingosstrakh).
