Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the phenomenon of formation of social enterprises in Poland within the framework of the EU's EQUAL initiative. The author presents two examples of such initiatives launched in rural areas. She also makes an attempt at critically assessing EQUAL projects from the point of view of their ability to ensure lasting development at the local level.
