Summary/Abstract: A case of misreading: Caracostea reading his predecessors. Dumitru Caracostea’s book The Psychological Aspect of the War is the outcome of his short-lived teaching activity at Military Academy between 1919 and 1922, at the beginning of his career. From the misreading of his predecessor, Marcu Câmpeanu, proceeded an audacious book, an innovative method and approach to a still new area of research and study. The attitude towards his predecessor’s book seems extremely critical, since Marcu Câmpeanu’s book on military psychology has been translated in many languages. Even Gustave Le Bon, whose ideas about psychology of the masses form the theoretical basis for Marcu Câmpeanu’s book, is not exempt from Caracostea’s objections.
