Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the 2013 general elections in Chile which featured the return of the first female president Michelle Bachelet (in office for the first time in 2006–2010) to the presidency. The author argues that despite important continuity, both in the person of the president and her coalition, it is to expect various important reforms in political-institutional and substantive areas (educational and fiscal reforms). The elections were held in the context of social mobilization, disenchantment with the two traditional coalitions of political parties and the demand for new, alternative political leaders. The reformist program of Bachelet intends to respond to the challenges that Chile currently faces.
