Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to clarify some of the controversies related to risky driving, specifically how can cognitive errors be reduced within a risky task. We intend to reduce risk-taking by addressing one of the most powerful biases - the illusion of control. Two techniques of bias reduction are tested: a mainly cognitive one (memory that contradicts beliefs about control), and a primarily emotional one (negative emotions of fear and depression). Participants are faced with a risk-taking task. During the task feedback is manipulated. We expect that feedback determines a more realistic perception of own abilities and performance, reduces the subjective feeling of control and diminishes risk taking. The results partially confirm these hypotheses.
