The Influence of Classical Antiquity on Jewish Tombs in Prague, c. 1900

Summary/Abstract: Jews are generally believed to have been present in Bohemia and Moravia as early as the ninth century, and there is written evidence of their presence, dating from the tenth century.1) The Jewish community, located in central Prague, used only one burial site at any one time, that is to say, until that cemetery was full or forbidden to be used. That is why Jewish cemeteries in inner, old Prague chronologically follow each other.
