Summary/Abstract: The article contains a brief analysis of the causes of the popularity of crime literature in Norway. Among them, the role of the literary tradition in this country, the importance of the crime story as a genre that lies between popular and high literature, and the therapeutic function of both crime fiction and non-fiction work treating violence. The text discusses the future of the genre in the face of the tragedy suffered in Norway on 22 July 2011
