NONCLASSICAL SCIENCE IN LIGHT OF NONCLASSICAL EPISTEMOLOGY BY G. BACHELARD

Summary/Abstract: The relevance of addressing to G. Bachelard’s philosophy of science is determined by the need to find new methodological grounds of scientific research pertaining the current situation in science – transition from nonclassical to postnonclassical science. The paper shows how the nonclassical epistemology of G. Bachelard conforms with the major principles of nonclassical science. Characteristic features of the “gap” between classical and nonclassical science are considered. These features include elements of both negation and synthesis. Categorial unity unfolds both in classical and non-classical science to allow assessment of their relationship on the principle of complementarity. Justified diversity of Bachelard’s new rationalism is approved as a measure of nonclassical epistemo­logy denying Cartesian-Kantian tradition in philosophy. The main principles of his philosophy of science are identified. They are: identification of opportunities and limits of theoretical systems of realism and rationalism, construction mechanism of scientific reality, features of experience and experiment, scientific concepts, and a social status of nonclassical science
