Summary/Abstract: The conversation begins with the question of an intellectual and academic formation known as the visual studies as well as with the personal experience of the scholar who moved from the field of literature to the studies on visual culture and the Holocaust representations. Among the issues discussed are those related to the concept of history, time, trauma and representation in the light of the critique of poststructuralism as well as in relation to the notion of the archive and the affect theory. The interlocutors concentrate on the problematic status of the transmission of knowledge, limitations of traditional pedagogy and historiography, and the role of psychoanalysis in the study of the past. They relate to and discuss both artistic projects and their own research and didactic experience.
