Summary/Abstract: Andrzej Stasiuk is one of the most successful and internationally acclaimed contempo-rary Polish writers and literary critics. He is the best known for his essays and stories on the reality of the Eastern Europe. Stasiuk with a Ukrainian writer, Yuri Andrukovych, wrote two essays: “My Europe. Two essays on the Europe called Cen-tral.” The article presents the philosophical context of his works. Stasiuk is depicted as a writer who talks about private, European, and historical memory. He claims that a new historical dialogue with different cultures can not be built without “a myth of genesis.” Stasiuk has not any coherent, homogeneous vision of the Central and Eastern Europe. According to him, truths about European live, fears, and problems, are close to those of a small, local community. The province appears as a heart of the matter – a small fatherland. His vision of the United Europe is not optimistic.
