There is a certain relationship between law and the journalism profession. Press law, regulating rights and obligations of the journalism profession is a key regulation for the journalist’s practice. Truth, respect for human dignity and ethics – these should be the key principals. Some of these elements are analogous to the teachings of the church, and to the teachings of John Paul II in particular. In accordance with the Pope’s teachings, telling the truth is a journalist’s overriding duty and the way how the world is being described should be free of a manipulation. Furthermore, according to the Pope’s teachings it should also include familiarizing people with the Christian religion. It is well known that the journalists have great power. And with great power always comes great responsibility. Sticking to the law regulations as well as following the path of John Paul II teachings may help the journalists to act in accordance with the ethical principles.
