Summary/Abstract: The Hispano-American poet Rubén Darío (1876-1916) was the founder of the literary movement known in the Hispanic historiography by the name of “modernism”. The Hispanic modernism inscribes in the sphere of the poetical currents “fin-de siècle” (of the end of the XIX century, to be more precisely). The majority of the critics consider that Rubén Darío is an essentially erotic poet, the work of which includes a profaner and in a great measure irreverent synthesis of eroticism and religion. But it is easy to observe, at the end of a more attentive reading, that the pure religious theme, without any erotic allusion, occupies in the poetry of R. Darío a place at least as important as the theme of love. So that it can be stated, with no exaggeration, that the Nicaraguan poet is rather a mystical author; and it’s exactly what this article proposes to demonstrate.
