Summary/Abstract: The structure of the population of Vratsa at the end of the 19th century is studied in this article. The author uses data taken from the first censuses of the population after the Liberation from Ottoman domination and others, sought out or systematized by other research workers. On the basis of these data the dynamics of the number of inhabitants in the town is studied, together with its ethnic and ethnographic structure. Special attention is paid to the social structure of the town population. The localization of the individual social categories and the area of the town are outlined. The reasons for growth of Vratsa as an economic, political and education centre are indicated.
