Discursive construction of knowledgeable subject in travel writing

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to travel writing subject, the discursive means of rendering them knowledgeable and the specific features of the knowledge in question. Using the selected pieces of travel writing about Russia and other former Soviet Union countries as her empirical material, the author demonstrates both the differences between the knowledgeable subjects and their shared features. Engaging the categories of genre and intertextuality in the analysis, the author aims at situating the knowledge, to which the travel writing subject refers, in the context of power relations not only between the depicted world and the narrator but also between the narrator and the reader.
