Summary/Abstract: The emphasis in the article is on the issues in research evaluation. Today research evaluation has become the one of the most important instrument in science policy. It attracts not only the attention of scientific community, but also the interest of broader social public. There is not big conformity between the scientists in regard to the existence of objective measures in practical procedures of scientific evaluation. This thesis is also proved by empirical evidence. The main interest in the article is given to the question of scientific ethos and the system of peer review. Furthermore in the article is comparatively observed the practice of peer review in processes of selection of research proposals in Slovenia and in some another countries. In the conclusion some suggestions are given to supplement peer review system in science.
