Summary/Abstract: The author stresses the relevance of neocorporatist mechanisms for the post-socialist modernisation from the aspect of the systems theory. The processes of modernisation in post-socialist societies consist of functional differentiation of societal sub-systems, development of their internal operational principles, and reflection . These processes enable the development of contextual steering of societal sub-systems, which can be based on pluralist or neocorporatist mechanisms . Neocorporatism can significantly contribute to the 'unloading' of the political sub-system and to the further modernisation. Compared to corporatism, it does not lead to dediferentiation, but preserves differentiation. The conditions for the development of contextual steering from the aspect of political, economic and association sub-systems, as well as some institutional and cultural conditions for the development of neocorporatism, for the Slovene case are discussed in the second part of the paper.
