Summary/Abstract: The author, a permanent correspondent of German newspapers in Moscow, has a view of Soviet sport fans which differs somewhat from that of Robert Hartmann [Osteuropa, 2/1974). He emphasizes certain peculiarities of the USSR. In some areas, such as track and field, the Moscow public is so used to Soviet victories that it demands these at all costs j ice hockey too it sees as a special Soviet domain where victories are expected. On the other hand, fewer passions are aroused where Soviet superiority is not taken for granted, in football for example. Here the fans sometimes even switch sides, and rough behaviour is rare due to strict security measures in the stadiums and prohibition of alcoholic beverages.
