An individual must conform to the established social norms (Confucian ones) which, tested in history, become a guarantor of the social order. The authority in China has always been subject to control. Emperors ruled by his ministers, next of kin, quite often by eunuchs. They controlled one another and disbelieved one another. Control, informing, mistrust, violence – the fixed elements in the policy of China, both in imperial China as in the present – communist time.
