Equivalence as adequacy - towards a definition

Summary/Abstract: In this paper we approached the notion of equivalence from the semantic adequacy perspective starting from the main views of specialists in the field of translation studies: a) equivalence as translation procedure, b) equivalence as result of translation activity, and c) equivalence as identity relation between two units of meaning from different languages. Taking into account the differences between two languages, a translation practice proved that not all the elements of the Source Txt can be rendered.
