Summary/Abstract: The mosaics cover the exedra of the villa. There are several geometric-ornamental panels (rectangular and triangles) and a marina around a piscine. In the marine is represented a harbour with the masons of the wall and the gate of the port. Two different ships, navis oneraria and kerkouros are reaching the harbour in the east and west part of the marina, shown in all their details of construction. The marine fauna is represented by a big sea-monster or whale, swallowing a smaller fish, by a dolphin and a lot of small fishes. The mosaist was an usual craftsman on a banal level. The other panels, on the opposite, are a product of skillful masters, with very rich schemes and motifs and love for the detail. They represent the next step of development after the period of Tetrarchy, leading to the rich compositions of second part of IV C. According to the iconographic and stylistic features of the mosaics and the portrait herms the pavements from Filipovtzi belong to the middle – beginning of the second half of the same century.
