Summary/Abstract: Norbet H. Weber, in the very title of his treatise, refers to the famous radio speech delivered by Theodor Adorno in 1966, “Erziehung nach Auschwitz.” The text discusses three main topics: 1. How is the period of National Socialism perceived in the German science of education? 2. What is the role of visiting remembrance sites in the political socialization of visitors? 3. How future teachers of the second or even the third generation cope with Auschwitz? The author devotes most of his considerations to the conclusions that can be drawn from the student essays on the trips to Auschwitz in 1985 and 2005. The text is closed by the statement: both trips to Auschwitz have contributed to broadening the political consciousness of students, encouraged them to show moral courage. Their assumption of responsibility for the past, and for shaping the present and the future, is perceived by the representatives of the second and third generation as a mission, as one of the students described it, using the bridge metaphor: “We want to take the responsibility and carry its weight. We would like to be a bridge for it.”
