Summary/Abstract: The modern studies (research) are inconceivable without scientific literature reading. The scientific style and the style of the language for specific purposes is characterized by business-like manner, conciseness. Nominal constructions (phrases) and word groups are indispensable where the genitive attribute plays the most important role. The objective of this article is to deal with the relation between the genitive attribute and the nominal groups. The research i s based upon the examples from the natural sciences, chemistry, physics, and medicine. The method used is analytical and descriptive. At the beginning of the article the main emphasis is laid on the attributes and their consolidation into larger blocks, this being the tendency in scientific language and the language for specific purposes. Further special emphasis is laid on the place of the genitive attribute with regard to the core of nominal group. The following most common core groups are distinguished: abstract (verbal and adjectival), concrete nominal adjectival, etc. As well as describing alternative cases of the genitive atribute using the article also defines the concept of its volume (scope/range) and content. The genitive attribute analysis with regard to the aforementioned aspects is of paramount importance (to the students) while studying in order to understand the structure and meaning of nominal phrases; the differences between the word order in German and Lithuanian nominal phrases can be observed. The above mentioned and other differences as well as similarities could be the object of further research.
