The Ascension to Throne of Theodosius the Great and the First Years of Reign. Observations Regarding the War between Romans and Goths (378-382)

Summary/Abstract: In the Romanian church history, the ascension to throne of Theodosius the Great and the rescue of the Roman Empire facing the Goths are presented merely as adaptations of the texts of the three “synoptic” church histories dating from the mid 5th century, though without further interpretation. This study updates the information and hypotheses developed during the last 20 years on the subject and it is also an attempt to clarify an essential moment in the History of Christianity.
