Summary/Abstract: The Conference of the Labour Party of Albania (LPA) Committee of Tirana city was held on April 14-19, 1956, about two months after the XXth Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). This conference was taking place on the eve of the IIId Congress of the Labour Party of Albania. A lot of delegates, who were Party secretaries in the main institutions of Albania, ministries, all well known public persons brought to the conference their reflections on the situation in Albania, in the spirit of the XXth Congress of the CPSU. In this respect, they rendered their judgment, re-evaluated the activity of the leadership of the LPA in critical way, and made an appeal to overcome all the arbitrariness in the LPA life. Albeit the critiques were equilibrated and much ethical, the number One of the Party, the First Secretary of the Central Committee, Enver Hoxha and other key figures of the Party severely objected them. The political violence extended even outside the conference, to all those communists who analyzing facts, events, and situations had come to similar conclusions as criticizing delegates. The violence actions witnessed that the LPA leadership not only was not ready to carry out the directives of the XXth Congress of the CPSU related to the present conditions of Albania, but that it was determined to keep on the prior path of Stalinism. Tirana Party conference was the first and last dissidence in the bosom of the LPA. The “hostile” groups followed it were only victims of false accusations, as a component of the struggle for power that E. Hoxha practiced persistently. The first venture of the communists of Tirana was annihilated when it was still an embryo and did not come to be repeated. Thus that was a failing spring for all the Albanian Lefty, which didn’t manage to involve in the “New Course” to relieve the dictatorship in Albania.
