Summary/Abstract: This research aims at highlighting the role of loanwords in finding the equivalence of the phytonomic terms identified in some Romanian sacred texts, which are an integral part to our Biblical tradition. Motivated by the transformations undergone in the material and spiritual life of the Romanian people that also implied the need to enrich the vocabulary, the loanwords has proven to be suitable for filling the gaps between the involved languages in the case of Biblical phytonomy, too (source-language and target-language), alongside with other processes. Even though the loanwords are perceived as rather as a means of enriching the vocabulary of a given language, they also acquire the valence of a translation procedure if the target-language does not have the appropriate equivalent. Taking into account the various realities of the involved cultures on the terminological level, the article justifies the use of this procedure in this language segment.
