Summary/Abstract: The work constitutes the analysis of the reasons and the course of damaging a collection in Jasna Góra Library. The author thoroughly examines the process of a microbiological destruction of books collected there. The main factor causing book destruction is damp resulting from the temperature abrupt changes observed in the space of the library. As it turned out, book edge, spine and covers suffer from damp most sensitively, which, in turn, leads to the development of microscopic fungus, i.e. mildew. The article presents different types of fungi influencing the condition of the collection and results of the studies that were to control the level of collection infection by spores. A quantitative assessment of microbiological threats was completed with a qualitative identification of pathogenic factors. It was restricted to the most popular fungus types: Alternaria, Botritis, Fusarium, Mucor, Penicilium and Venturia.
