Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze the way in which the global crisis affected Latin America and to investigate development trends after the crisis in the region. Economic and fi nancial crises in the region of Latin America are not a rare phenomenon – on the contrary, in recent decades they have become a recurring characteristic of the regional economic outlook. However, the current crisis in industrialized countries has not transmitted directly the fi nancial meltdown towards the less developed countries, and Latin America in particular, and the economic recovery in the region has become a reality before adequate response of the international financial system could trigger optimistic economic expectations for developed countries. Latin America managed to navigate the global crisis without submerging into a deep recession, to a large extent due to prudent management of its public finances and the banking system. The most developed economies in the region, including Brazil, Chile, and Colombia, have been growing in recent years, creating jobs, expanding the middle class etc.
