Summary/Abstract: The 6th Eugeniusz Geppert Competition and the 5th Exhibition of Art by Young Artists are very controversial projects. In my opinion, the standard of the shows is low, and the participants don’t follow the basic requirements of painting. Instead, they are conformist and “rebellious” artists. They were invited by curators, and that fact didn’t contribute to the openness of the show. The pre-selection favoured non-painterly approach towards painting. As the result, there were many multimedial projects. Artists concentrated on unconvincing formal experiments and installations. The curators had to review the mediocre work, and give awards to less-than-mediocre artists. They had to compromise, because they didn’t have any better choice. I regret, that the 6th Geppert Competition was much less “Geppertian” than the preceding shows. Most unfortunately, the name of the patron-artist is becoming less and less significant. Sadly, young artists don’t look at the first Academy chancellor’s work in order to find artistic inspiration.
