Summary/Abstract: Order of St. Anthony was founded in 1095 in France. Thanks to its charitable acti¬vity, the congregation spread throughout the Western Europe. In Slovakia, the Antonines had their monasteries with hospitals in Dravce, in the region of Spiš, and in Bratislava. Dravce became a Preceptory for the whole Hungary and Slavonia. The presence of the congregation in Spišské Podhradie, Levoča and Košice had been attested by the manus¬cripts. The influence of the Order was far-reaching. The devotion to St. Anthony of the Desert spread in the towns which had churches and altars dedicated to the patron saint of the Order. In the central region with its mining towns there is a village near Banská Štiav¬nica dedicated to St. Anthony – Svätý Anton. In the vicinity of Banská Bystrica, another important mining town, we find villages Sásová (Sv. Anton) and Jakub, parish churches of which display similarities to the parish churches of Dravce and Levoča. According to our hypothesis, these villages might be witnesses to the Antonines’ influence as well.
