Summary/Abstract: This article presents the origin and evolution of the concept of Total Quality Management (TQM). At first the most common in the literature stages of Total Quality Management development are identified. Subsequently, the characteristics and origins: quality inspection, quality control, quality assurance and total quality management are presented.
