Summary/Abstract: Starting with a short presentation of Aimé Césaire’s works and exegesis, the article analyses the „European” Césaire in La Tragédie du Roi Christophe. The representations from Salzburg and Odeon are presented in the first part of the study. A second part is dedicated to language and the intertextuality in Césaire’s work. Christophe experiments, in his privacy, and he goes from apogee to decline. This painting of his character and the writer`s talent concerning «la mise en scène» changed La Tragédie du Roi Christophe into a very European drama.
