Summary/Abstract: Located in the North-East of Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia is lined with Austrian Carinthia, Slovenia, the Adriatic and the Veneto. This particular situation makes this region an important core communications and ethnic and cultural encounters. After a national debate on the recognition of minorities, the region became one of the five autonomous regions of Italy. In 1953, the Council of Europe states that "every person belonging to a minority has the right to its own culture, its own language, to open their own schools and receive instruction in the language of their choice." Currently, Friulian is established as the language of government, education, culture and media. The work done by regional institutions, governments and the region is essentially to ensure that the Friulian is located in the same place as the other languages of the region that is to say, German, Slovenian and Italian.
