Journeys to the Limits, or on Transgression in François Ozon’s Meta-cinematic Discourse

Summary/Abstract: On the one hand, François Ozon is often praised for employing unpredictable plot outlines, but on the other hand accused of making kitschy films. Bartkowska rather discovers in his ambiguous film activity a trait of transgression, which in this instance was to consist in taking a special strategy: Ozon goes beyond orthodoxy, juxtaposing and clashing the conventions of different models of statements, and blends them within a single work. The method allows him to keep creative freedom, and offers viewers new riddles to solve.
