Summary/Abstract: This essay deals with the issue of Polish reception of the culture of the Soviet Union period, not-as-yet touched upon in research on the gulag discourse. Five canonical works of this current are reflected upon – those by M. Wańkowicz, B. Obertyńska, G. Herling-Grudziński, T. Wittlin, B. Skarga – and interpreted in view of the issues of mutual perception of the two nations involved and of creation of images of other nationalities in literature.
