Summary/Abstract: This article proceeds from the questions: What is specific about stratification research based on quantitative methods? Is there a general theoretical standpoint underlying their application? Is there a single research paradigm shared by a broader research network? Three affirmative answers to these questions are given in the article. In Bulgaria, the more complicated statistical dimensions based on quantitative methods seem to be somewhat underestimated. There is also a lack of convincing analyses of the connection between the macro level of institutions and policies, the meso level of separate firms and workplaces, and the micro level of individual action which results in a dissimilar positioning in the social structure. The article traces three stages of analysis: focusing on a given social problem; formulating hypotheses that imply the existence of generative processes at the micro level of individual action; testing the factual validity of the explanations on the basis of quantitative data obtained from the international comparative Generations and Gender Survey (2004). The author analyses the impact of social gender and education on the chance of working at gender integrated workplaces or, on the contrary, on the concentration of either feminized or male dominated workplaces. The consequences of these processes are shown to be important for stratification.
