Summary/Abstract: The recent developments in public finances led to an explosion of indebtedness in the world. In the aftermath of the financial crisis, the Polish fiscal position has worsened as well. Lack of solutions for fiscal problems or their deepening could lead to sudden growth of debt service and a fall into a debt trap. In the face of accelerating public debt in relation to GDP and the worsening structure of public spending along with its growth in relation to GDP, the Polish Ministry of Finance proposed in 2010, among other solutions, the implementation of disciplined spending rule. The aim of this article it to present the assumptions and try to assess this spending rule prepared by the Ministry of Finance in 2010, based on which the budget for 2011 and 2012 has been constructed.
