Ivo Andrić, Orpheus and Eurydice

Summary/Abstract: lt is the myth about Orpheus and Eurydice that casts light upon numerous Andrić's stories. Perhaps, this is not so important for understanding of his novels "The Bridge on Drina" and "The Travnik Chronicle" since, as chronicles, they are distanced sharply from any mythology. But in Andric's stories myth appears persistently and maybe his obsession with this myth gives us grounds to regard him not only as a Bosnian but as an European classic writer, for the topic of Orpheus' travel to-the underworld has been accoopanying Western European literature from its very beginnings.
