Idea of solidarity and equality as a base of the Swedish welfare state model – on the example of pension system and labor market.

Summary/Abstract: The article presents key values of the Swedish welfare state model: solidarity and equality, on the example of social insurance, taxation and labor market policy. Swedish welfare state is also compared with other “welfare economies” in their fiscal burdens, just before the global financial crisis. The conclusion is that modern Swedish welfare state is a successful and stabile realization of most important aims and values of the folkhemmet conception, based on solidarity and social equality.
